ADULT SERVERS-FUNERAL
MINISTRY LEADER: SARAH DEMIGLIO
A Funeral Mass usually has two servers. They are needed to do the things that are part of every Mass, and there are special tasks at the beginning and end of the funeral Mass, so follow the instructions on the white paper that you will get the Mass. Do everything you can to make the funeral Mass a beautiful one.
ALTAR SERVERS
MINISTRY LEADER: REV. SLAWOMIR SIOK
Boys and girls, fourth grade and above, are eligible for this ministry. We have training sessions both in the spring and right before school starts. Altar servers assist as scheduled at weekly Masses, weddings. Altar servers arrive at least 15 minutes before Mass, dressed in their Sunday best, ready to serve the Church and assist the priest.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
MINISTRY LEADERS: MARYBETH SIMONEIT & MONICA MIGLAZZIO
During the homily, volunteers read and discuss God’s Word at a child’s level to kids ages 4 to 11. All materials are provided and no experience is necessary. Each volunteer only teaches once a month, so the total time commitment is about 30 minutes per month. Adults and high school students are also welcome to volunteer. There is one group meeting conducted each year. Volunteers do not need to have children to volunteer.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
MINISTRY LEADERS: JANET FURLONG
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest by doing pre-Mass set-up, assisting in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and doing after-Mass clean-up. They also take Holy Communion to parishioners who can’t attend Mass. Any Catholic over 18, who is in sacramental union with the Church and has been a member of the parish for at least one year may apply. All members must be approved by the pastor and the Bishop. Initial training is done with follow-up as needed. Ministers sign up to serve at one or two Masses per month.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND
MINISTRY LEADER: WALTER GARRROW
These ministers fulfill an important need for our Church by taking Communion and the Word of God weekly or monthly to those who are recovering from illness, who are homebound due to a disability, or to permanent residents in area nursing homes. All parishioners over 18, who are in sacramental union with the Church and who have been a member of the parish for at least one year, are welcome; however, special training is required.
LECTORS
MINISTRY LEADER: JANET FURLONG
Lectors are individuals who boldly and effectively proclaim God’s Word within the context of liturgical worship at St. John de LaSalle Parish. Volunteers read assigned readings at Sunday worship and other special liturgical celebrations. Lectors must be outgoing, friendly, and be good readers and communicators with a strong voice. They must have received Confirmation, be in good standing with the Catholic Church and be members of St. John de LaSalle Church. An audition is necessary and attendance at one seminar per year is required. Lectors average two to three readings per quarter and they must spend time preparing for their readings with the help of a guidebook. Schedules are prepared quarterly.
USHERS
MINISTRY LEADER: JOSEPH GIARRIZZO
Ushers are individuals who help with collections, seating and handing out bulletins at the end of Mass. All adults age 17 and over are invited to be ushers one Mass a month. Ushers must be Confirmed and members of St. John de LaSalle Church. Training is on-the-job.
