Faith Formation

"Let the little children come to me."

Please contact Marybeth Simoneit at 283-2238 ext 306 for a Family Faith box. It includes resources for home study for your family. Children who are studying to receive a sacrament this year will still have classes for Sacramental prep. See the schedule.

Whole Family Catechesis

The Diocese has adopted a curriculum, “Forming Disciples” for our Faith Formation program throughout the diocese. I have been working with the diocese, Fr. Siok, St. John’s parishioners, and families to adopt this new curriculum and we are going to look at our faith opportunities through a new lens. In “Forming Disciples” we are called to community and actions as the stepping stones to learning. We are asking you as a family to embark on a new journey of discipleship together.

The Faith Formation program will have a new look and it will be driven by the families’ participation in a variety of opportunities - gathered as a community, within your home and even online. We are asking for your commitment to this fresh new plan and ask for your continuous feedback as the year goes on.

The general outline is:

    * There will be a year-long theme for Parish wide learning.

    * Once a month, the entire family gathers for an intergenerational learning opportunity on the first Sunday on the Month. The family would come for lesson/activities at 10:00am and attend Mass at either 8:45am or 11:15am.

*Lessons/information/activities would be sent home with the families for the month based on the theme.

*There will be service opportunities planned throughout the year for families to participate in thereby offering learning about social justice.

*There will be liturgical/prayer opportunities planned throughout the year for families to practice their faith together.

*We are striving to create flexibility in the calendar so that families can participate in ways that are best for their needs.

*Sacramental preparation will take place once a month as well. Class and at home expectations would be supported by catechists and parents.

*New opportunities such as field trips, concerts and speakers will also be offered. Book clubs and video series for adults will be offered.

The focus of this curriculum is about being Catholic. We will learn in a deeper way what we do and why we do it. We will learn together and create a Catholic culture where our family lives Gospel teachings and a baptismal call to spread the Good News.

Please stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, please do the following:

Successful parents give an authentic example of the Faith to their children—no matter how scary this may be or how unqualified you believe you are. The old adage is true: We can’t give what we don’t have. Your children may never come to know and love Jesus Christ and His Church if you don’t. At the same time, our Church is not a place just for flawless saints; it is a place full of imperfect people who desire to know God more deeply and who want to be more like Him. This is the kind of example we want to pass on to our children.
